Course Content:
This IOSH Legionella Management course provides an in-depth overview of the risks posed by Legionella bacteria and the tools available to evaluate and control them effectively.
The 2-day programme is designed to give delegates a thorough insight into their legal obligations regarding Legionella management and the principal factors that need to be considered when performing a Legionella risk assessment. Through a combination of tutor instruction and practical exercises, they will develop key skills in:
the potential for the legionella bacteria and the conditions that support its proliferation
the risks from exposure to elevated legionella bacteria levels
best practice approaches to managing legionella bacteria
the main components of an effective preventive maintenance plan
the requirements of a successful water sampling programme
A final written assessment will ensure that participants leave the course with the ability to perform their legionella management effectively.
The course is accredited and certified by IOSH, the lead professional body for safety in Europe.
Aims
Following training, delegates will have a good working knowledge of the theory and practice of carrying out assessment techniques as required by the Approved Code of Practice and Guidance for The control of Legionella bacteria in water systems.
Learning Objectives
On completion, delegates will have sufficient basic knowledge of the practice and theory of Legionella Management to enable them to:
Carry out simple Legionella risk assessments
Plan water sampling and testing programmes or critique contractors programmes
Plan practical control and management of Legionella systems
Design maintenance schedules to support the control systems
Fulfil the role of a ‘Responsible Person’
Prerequisites
Delegates are not required to have previous Legionella Management experience, although this would potentially be an advantage.
Who Should Attend?
Any member of staff who may become a ‘Responsible Person’ for the management of Legionella. It is suitable for engineers and managers with other responsibilities related to legionella management, as well as health and safety professionals responsible for performing legionella risk assessments.
